![]() World at War (don't call it Call of Duty 5 or an Activision PR person loses their wings) pushes the ideas of Call of Duty 4 forward with new perks like Second Chance and Reconnaissance. It was popular enough to knock Halo 3 off of its top spot on Xbox Live, so it had to do something right. It had in-game rewards like airstrikes and gunships and unlockable perks that kept players online for days at a time. Multiplayer is as big a part of Call of Duty, if not bigger, than the single-player and that notion was only exacerbated when Call of Duty 4 broke onto the scene. Everything else in the solo play is vintage Call of Duty, which is to say that it's very good, but not up to the sheer intensity of Call of Duty 4. The flamethrower can be frustrating if you're playing on anything but the two easiest difficulty levels and the tank level takes a major hit in graphical quality for whatever reason. ![]() Both levels are different than anything in COD4, but neither is up to the level that Infinity Ward produced throughout their game. There's the flamethrower level where you have to clear several enemy bunkers and there's a tank level where you tread around in the gigantic metal contraption spewing flames and tank shells out of the front. Credit to Treyarch for trying a few new things, though. The+nuke+exploding+in+COD4+is+a+great+moment. It's very cool, to be sure, but it's not up to par with the campaign of COD4. I might have been more inclined to forgive the World War II source material if there was a new and interesting storyline wrapped around it, but what's there is nothing more than shells of characters acting out historical battles. Kiefer Sutherland was injected into the storyline that powers World at War's campaign, but he feels like an afterthought and inhabits one of your mates on the battlefield rather than your character. Seeing a nuke detonate while in a helicopter and then climbing out of the smoking fuselage is a better sequence than anything that World at War has to offer, though it makes some nice attempts at equaling the flair. YES NO If you remember, Modern Warfare had the same high production values and scripted events in its campaign but it had two things that World at War does not: an original storyline and current technology powering the weapons. Again, World at War's campaign is a great experience with scripted events that are of a higher quality than most other series, but that doesn't change the feeling that you've played the scenarios before. I've held an MP40 in my hands before, I've shot Panzerschecks before and I've seen the hallowed out shells of buildings in 1945 before. World at War, while it presents what is easily the most frenetic and chaotic World War II we've ever seen, still can't separate itself from the throngs of other releases based on the same time period. We've played through WWII how many times? It feels like well over a thousand. For me, that immediately handcuffs what the game is going to be able to deliver. Call of Duty: World at War puts players in the familiar setting of World War II. ![]() Instead, this article focuses on gameplay and overall quality.Ĭlick+above+to+watch+a+video+that+breaks+down+the+differences+between+the+two+games+(HD+available). They're built on the same engine and the team at Treyarch apparently spent its time creating new and detailed environments rather than wowing us with any new visual trinkets. Visually, the two games are essentially equals. That's exactly what we're here to find out. But is it enough to topple last year's greatest production? It comes to us from the hands of those who churned out the maligned Call of Duty 3, but this time Treyarch has managed to make a highly exciting and fully realized wartime first-person shooter. Now we have a new entry in the Call of Duty franchise known as World at War. Or at least that's the consensus that we IGN editors came to during our end of the voting. ![]() Call of Duty 4 was last year's greatest game. ![]()

![]() There is a fast growing movement in New Zealand that has been happening out in paddocks, fields, gardens and hill country across the nation. Growing a Revolution – watch NZ farmers on a regen ag field day in Leeston, Canterbury showing what can be done farming the regenerative way with less chemicals, carbon emissions and nitrates, showing super-healthy soil and plants growing like crazy. The field day organisers were blown away by the attendance and enthusiasm of the crowd. They marveled at healthy pasture, dug in the rich black foot-deep top soil, heard stories from their peers, and visited some happy, healthy cows. In November, 2019 a group of 85 farmers gathered in a mixed cropping farm and a dairy farm near Leeston, Canterbury, to find out what they could learn about regenerative agriculture. All in all, and I know this sounds like a cop-out answer, but the choice is ultimately up to you.The good, the bad, and the opportunity of regenerative farming in NZ The visuals and gameplay alone are solid enough to warrant a purchase, but there’s enough going against the game that could make me say otherwise. So, with all that being said, is Pure Farming 2018 worth the price? I’d say a hesitant yes. It’s a game that you’ll play and probably like for a time, but your enjoyment will slowly peter out until you want to play something that does more to keep your attention. Despite that slow grind based enjoyment though, this title doesn’t offer a lot in the way of keeping me engaged. For me, like I said before, it was listening to country music and watching the days wind down one after the other. There’s nothing inherently fun about Pure Farming 2018, the fun comes from wherever you, the player, can obtain it. Now there is entertainment value in this game, but it’s an entertainment that you need to find. The last thing I want to mention about Pure Farming 2018 is not so much a positive or a negative thing, but more so a commentary on its existence. I don’t know, maybe I’ve just gone loony. There’s just something really blissful about doing tasks in order to watch a number steadily increase. Start it up, throw on some country music in the background, and away I go. That being said, however, (and watch out ‘cause here comes the curveball) I love this style of gaming! Pure Farming 2018 is right up there as one of my new favourite rest and relaxation games. The gameplay for this title is, overall, very simplistic. I digress though, the way that players make money in a game about farming is… wait for it… farming! You plant, you harvest, you sell, you rinse and repeat. As stated before, your whole purpose in-game is to pay off the debt that you took on, which is a bit disappointing from a variety perspective because there are several side objectives that one could aim for while trying to achieve this goal. Let’s take a look at the gameplay aspects of Pure Farming 2018. I’d play for a couple of hours and maybe see one person who would promptly leave before I could figure out where they came from so that I could eventually escape my virtual prison.Īnyway, I’m getting off topic. ![]() ![]() Quite the opposite, I felt like I was playing a farming version of The Truman Show. I never believed that I was part of a thriving agricultural community. Basically, where the visuals excel, the design doesn’t. However, it doesn’t give the same level of effort with things like immersion. Pure Farming 2018 does a solid job in bringing across a decent looking world for the player to get around in. In regards to visuals, there are certainly worse titles out there. Moving from story into scenery, we begin to analyze the environments and level design. ![]() Overall, just the standard beige level of storytelling. Not the case I’m afraid, instead, it’s just a basic plot revolving around you obtaining the debt from your recently deceased uncle and continuing his legacy. I was hoping for a story where you’d have to do something like win a tournament for best farmer ever or farm your way through a series of Portal-style challenges. Unfortunately, it’s not as silly as I wanted it to be. Yes, it’s true, Pure Farming 2018 does have a campaign mode. Well to start things off, let’s talk about the story. That being said, though, how does the only installment of this franchise measure up? One of the strangest experiences I’ve dealt with in gaming, Pure Farming is definitely one those things that’s made for a specific type of player. Nothing, however, could have really prepared me for the title that was Pure Farming 2018. All manner of genres ranging from platformers to FPS’s. I’ve reviewed a lot of games over the years. How far can monarchs fly?Įvery fall, North American monarchs fly south to spend the winter at roosting sites in Central Mexico or along the Pacific Coast. Adult monarchs hold their front two legs close up to their bodies most of the time, and can even use these two front legs to taste-test milkweed before laying eggs on it! Monarch caterpillars have have 6 true legs (3 sets) and 10 prolegs or false legs (5 sets). However, all insects, including monarchs actually have 6 legs. It sometimes looks like adult monarchs only have 4 legs, and that caterpillars have a lot more. It is important for monarch habitat to provide food sources for both caterpillars and adult butterflies, so plant native milkweed and nectar flowers in your habitat! How many legs do monarchs have? Adult monarchs drink the nectar of many species of flowering plants. Therefore, milkweed is known as the “host plant” for monarchs. After the egg hatches, the caterpillar feeds on milkweed exclusively, and does not leave the host plant until it is ready to pupate. Female monarchs use a series of cues to find milkweed and lay their eggs on the leaves of this plant. In North America, monarch caterpillars rely on milkweed (Asclepias genus) and a few closely related genera to grow and develop. Their offspring then carry on their migration north. Successful migrating monarchs will live between 6 to 9 months and reproduce and die in the southern U.S. By the time monarchs are back in the summer breeding range the next year, they are generations removed from the breeding individuals of the previous year.ĭuring the eastern population’s summer breeding season, 3 generations pass before the migratory generation (the 4th generation) leaves for Mexico. This is because there are 4 generations that take place throughout the year for eastern monarchs. It is most likely that the monarchs you see each year are new to your garden, and not the same monarchs that grew there previously, or their descendants. There is no evidence to suggest that an individual monarch’s offspring return annually to the habitats their ancestors came from. ![]() Monarch Biology Do monarchs return to the same areas when they are traveling north? ![]() ![]() Russell is known for inventing the first system to record digital information on an optical transparent foil that is lit from behind by a high-power halogen lamp. However, Giuseppe decided to leave his in the oven for longer. Crystelle and Chigs pulled their buns out of the oven quite early to leave themselves with enough time to cool and decorate them. However, the turning point in this challenge came down to how long to leave the buns in the oven for. The way he rolled his buns meant that they were very tall and did not have enough spirals. At first, it seemed like Chigs was going to come in last place due to rolling his dough the wrong way. The judges particularly loved the fig flavor.Ĭrystelle seemed to be at a slight advantage because she had made a curd in the signature challenge and she knew what Belgian buns were. Despite this, his cake was pretty but more importantly it was delicious. The heat also meant that the jam and cream cheese had soaked into the hot sponges, making the judges question at first whether the cake was underbaked or stodgy. As a result, his icing had melted slightly and his cakes had shifted a little. This meant that his cake took a lot longer to bake and didn’t have much time to cool. Whereas Crystelle and Chigs had made the challenge easier for themselves by baking individual sponges for their layers, Giuseppe made one large cake that he then sliced up. This was then decorated with orange cream cheese icing, candied walnuts and fresh figs. Giuseppe made an orange-zest infused carrot cake sponge, sandwiched with fig and walnut jam. However, they thought his cake was rubbery and stodgy due to the large number of carrots he had used. The judges loved his decoration and his pipework and also enjoyed the flavor of his pineapple jam. ![]() His sponges were sandwiched with star anise infused pineapple jam and topped with classic cream cheese icing. Crystelle even had to use dowels to keep her cake upright. This meant that her sponges had moved and were slightly wonky. Due to it being so tall, the sponges had retained some heat and so her curd and frosting had melted slightly. Her four-tiered cake didn’t go down too well with the judges though. Her cakes were sandwiched with orange curd and decorated with pistachio and mascarpone frosting and pistachio praline. Crystelle decided to be ambitious and made a four-tiered spiced carrot cake. ![]() ![]() ![]()
